I am so pissed off…

Posted by: Socrates Socratous on: Apr 30th, 2008

Today something really screwed up happened
to me and I wanted to share with you for a couple
of reasons.

1. I wanna get it out of my chest
2. You might wanna make sure this doesn’t happen to you

Let me tell you what happened.

I have a dedicated server with this company called “ThePlanet”
that I host some of my websites on. (I have other dedicated
servers with other companies as well)

At 9am today, sales stopped!

I checked my sales stats around 11am I thought
it was just getting slow today, then I left for some
meetings.

I got back around 6pm PST to find out that there
were no sales since 9. That was odd and out of
normal since tons of subscribers have been ordering
my latest Greek Easter special all day long since Sunday

I checked to find out that NONE of my payment
links worked all day because the planet unplugged the
server that hosts my payment system (and some websites).

UNPLUGGED MY SERVER!

You know what that means?
That I have to lose thousands of dollars in sales
and frustrate my subscribers and website visitors,
because some idiot did not update my email address
in their systems.

Let me explain what happened:

on Feb 4th I opened a ticket and asked for my
email address to be updated. I got confirmation
that it was done. (see pic below)

emailchange.jpg

At some point the credit card I had in file
with them expired. they claim to have sent
an email to me letting me know they would
be taking my server offline if I did not pay them…

The sent the email at the OLD email address.
so I NEVER GOT IT
No courtesy phone call, no nothing.
so they UNPLUGGED the server

So they apologized and “waived” the $50
reconnection fee. They said they will
“investigate” why my email was not updated
when I was told it was.

backon.jpg

I am still waiting for a manager to call me
back.

At least I got my server back online at 7pm and
probably be looking to move to a company
that gives me the courtesy of a phone call
before unplugging my business at will.

I thought you wanted to know that someone
like THEPLANET can unplug your business at
any time if you fail to get their email.

If you tried to take advantage of my latest
crazy GREEK EASTER SPECIAL but you were
unable to do so today, go below to grab
your copy before it’s gone:

Check out the Greek Easter Special Here
Thank you for bearing with my frustration
Best regards
-Socrates

P.S. I will be soon posting a new treasure
on the blog. Stay tuned

    Hello Socrates,
I am so sorry about what happened with your Server. I would speak to my Attorney if I were you about some restitution. They must be responsible for your lost Sales. I don’t blame you for being PEED off. I would be too. I hope you will be able to make it up somehow!!!
Please feel free to write to me anytime for anything. OK?? Till we speak again, Lucille

That is some SERIOUSLY fucked up shit, dude!

Don’t they have a way for YOU to update your records yourself? All my servers do- they are at http://www.powervps.com with defender hosting, and I will tell you: You will NEVER find better support and better service anywhere.

Believe me, I know, ’cause I’ve been through shit like this before I found them, and you couldn’t get me to go back to the “Gator” or “MidDaze” for any amount of cash!

    Peace,

I feel your pain Socrates. I had a similar situation happen to me about this time last year with a well known marketer and his autoresponder service. My credit card had expired and they shut off my autoresponder account and gave no way back into their system to update it with a new one.

I had over 2000 subscribers I had no access to on about 3 different mail lists. Luckily I had just done an export of my subscribers a week before so I had the names and email information. But I still lost 2 out of every 3 when I imported them into my new service.

It sucked big time. I had spent many months grooming those lists and lost them over night.

I just don’t get it with competition so high for hosting accounts and autoresponder services why these big name marketers and companies want to risk losing good customers over a simple phone call.

Oh well, its their loss and I’m wiser for the experience now. But this kind of experience does sting.

Socrates, sorry to hear about that. I know how
that goes, it’s nothing like having everything
setup and ready and then something like this
happens causing you to lose sales, signups and
subscribers all because one simple mistake.

Argggggghhhhhhh that is just bang your head against a brick wall type of stuff!

What ever happened to good old fashioned service? lol
It is the one thing that I pride myself on with my customers.
Socrates make sure that when you get a new server get one that also backs up automatically a fail safe server is one I would recommend because that is another nightmare……… the hard drive dies….. oh no meant to do a backup……….

move on and move on up I say 🙂

oh and that one phone call that they didn’t make? well how many thousands are now going to read of their poor service and stay away – gee that’s good business ha ha ha

What a mess! Sorry to hear about that. Unfortunately, these things are all too common. I once had an unscrupulous webhost threaten to ruin my credit because I initialed a chargeback after he refused to give me a refund for his horrendous hosting service! He said he had friends in high places that had access to people’s credit records. Creepy. I reported him to his merchant account. I think they dropped him.

Anyway, a word about spelling – it’s Pissed Off (two “f”s). I know, I know, I spent too many years teaching school…

Just to let you know that the server company you dealt with should be sued.

In addition, all your associates and marketing friends should take their business away from this server.

It’s not that they didn’t send you an email to both accounts, but you closed the old one which they sent their email to.

I can recommend in addition that you make you send emails from all your addresses to the servers you deal with … and that they email you on all email accounts.

if enough people got hurt this way, I’d initiate a class action suit as well.

Wishing you all the best in the future.

Where is customer service these days?!?!

  11. James Milleron 01 May 2008 at 6:28 am

    Socrates,

Yep customer service is out the door now a days and not just from the hosting and autoresponder companies.

I started on the net to try to make some extra money but then I decided to take a close look at some of the people that were on the net and how they did business.

What I discovered is there is litte “personal service” anywhere. I mean you sign up on a list and an autoresponder sends you messages. If you drop off the list most of the time the owner does not know as he does not pay that close attention to it. I was amazed at how many help desks I went to and never received any type of response. The human aspect is gone we are just a number on a list.

Yeah it takes a little longer to give personal service but I feel in the long run it pays off.

    Just my thoughts.

    I would be mad also.
You should talk to a person I know very well,I think he could help you with a better server it
    has an uptime of 99.9%.
He is on skype, his name is Aaron Moon, tell him I told you about his servers,I think he will treat you right.

    Have a great day

That really sucks. I don’t know why so many internet companies refuse to pick up a phone. I guess until a few lawsuits are filed they aren’t going to change their practices.

Sorry about your server getting unhooked. I had the same thing happen to me last year. I had been with the service for 5 years with only a few minor problems. My credit card was still OK and I had checked auto-renewal.

I received one email stating that my account would be billed on such and such date. I called support to verify there wouldn’t be a problem and was assured that everything would be OK.

I went out a few days later to do some work on the site and guess what; I got a pop up telling me my sites had been shut down and all pages would be deleted at the end of 30 days. My credit card had been billed and I’m afraid I went off on a service rep pretty good.

They informed me that my credit card would be credited and I would have to go through the manual process before the system would accept it. They got it back up and working in just a few minutes. I now have another host also that seems to be working without problem. I guess maybe hosting services are quite a lot alike.

    S.S.

If you really want quality then it has to be with a company that is in business to make a profit with quality service and equipment.

    That is
    PAIR.com

Not cheap, they do not try to be the cheapest, but the best, Three web sites with them. One serving upwards to 180,000 images to eBay without a hitch for over ten years.

As I said in the email I support you 100 percent. I even went as far to email theplanet and let them know that this is effective word of mouth advertising and I would never go back to them.

I am so happy you took a stand, so many times people just keep hush hush and do nothing so the rest of us get burnt. Not this time, theplanet is off my list and this is why I switched to hostgator they are great and theres not even an affiliate link in this post so they must be good.

    WOW!! Thats a Fricken disaster…..
I am sorry to hear of your trouble and especially to hear that youare losing miney David. I use Host4Profit and have no problems. Although I am very new to this biz and I haven’t made a dime yet. I just can’t figure out what’s going on or how to do things but I am going to keep on trying. Maybe I’ll be able to make an income like you were just talking about. Any way, I’m sorry to hear of your missfortune and I hope God will give you the serenity to go even further in your ventures.

    Hello Socrates:

I did have a scary experience with domain name reservation. All of us, who work with credit cards, domain registration, hosting etc. must have several back up companies available. all the times, and not to depend upon on only one.

Out of one simple mistake, or misunderstading, I was almost out of the market for good. So we need to be carefull. I will share my scary experiences one day.

  21. Felixon 09 May 2008 at 6:55 pm

Hi, Socrates you are very young and a successful person, congratulations for that.
Well, let me tell you that I ‘d realy like to work with the intrnet , but to tell you the truth I am afraid to lose my money; this is the main reason I haven’t decided to start a business on line yet.I have read many successful stories like yours, but even with that I am still afraid. Good luck in all your proyects.

Most people that want to start on the internet get stuck on page 1 of the whole idea.
    Step 1…get a website
when it comes to creating your own website,99% of newbies(me included)stare at the screen wondering what to do and how to do it. you can pay someone……you can get template….you can design your own…. and so on.
your video about getting the webpage up was the most informative that i have seen and it has actually got me going after about 8 months of procrastinating / mental block and downloading rubbish and timewasting progs that only want you to buy more rubbish. Your video is exactly what we newcomers are looking for.
    thank you very much
will be watching your space for more and see if I can really start up and make some money on the net without it costing me an arm and a leg.
    regards
    rajkhosla
