Look what I found in my back yard…

Posted by: Socrates Socratous on: Jun 19th, 2008

Hey everyone,

I was working with a friend to put up a bar to support the overloaded
branches of my fig tree a couple of days ago (I LOVE figs,
especially my home grown ones :), when I heard a weird
noise coming from behind a bucket that was laying around
by the fig tree…

I wasn’t sure what it was at first until my friend pushed the
bucket to the side.

We were both stunned to find this abandonned kitten
laying right there on the ground.

The vet said its like 2 weeks old and if I want to give
it up for adoption it has to be 6 weeks. So we decided
to take care of it at least until it turns 6 (weeks that is)

We are trying to figure out a name for it. (its male btw)
Please post your comment below with your name
ideas.

I know my friend Joel Comm has a dog named
Socrates so at first I was thinking on naming it “Joel”
I am still pondering with that idea…

Take a look at the pictures and let me know what
you think.
Kitten in Socrates Palm

Look how tiny this thing is…

Here is the kitten (notice I am wearing my favorite T-Shirt)

Oh… Spooky was getting jealous so I had to post a picture of his
lazy ass too.

Post your comment below and help me pick a name for this
creature.

Have a fantastic day

How about Little Joel. What a cute little guy… Are you going to keep him? I think you should… In 4 weeks you WILL be so attached to him that you won’t be able to get rid of him. The dog will be attached to him also. Than What???

    Peace, David

I think the name “Lucky” would be a great name! I had a friend who named a dog he found with three legs Lucky. Lucky because he loved him!!

Best name for a male cat is Jack.

Just like you Socrates he’ll be a Jack of all trades.

    Flea ya,

    Ken.

How ’bout Figlet…a humorous take on ‘Piglet’ from the Milne Pooh stories, or…

He could be a Jellicle cat – Macavity or Gus, or…

    O’Malley, Berlioz, or Napoleon

I like Figbert as well, but he’d have to be ‘Sir Figbert.’ Whichever you decide – I think his ‘finding’ was such an unusual happening that he deserves an unusual, uncommon name – good luck!

The kitten is gorgeous and so tiny. It looks like he hit the Jackpot by being found by you, so in honor of his luck, I think you should call him Jackpot, then you could call him Jacks for short.
Thanx for this post, I think it’s awesome that you’ve adopted him, even is it’s only for a few weeks. You never know, you might not want him to leave after that time.

NICE OF YOU TO RESCUE THAT POOR LITTLE KITTY
I THINK YOU SHOULD NAME IT TIGER.

Cats seem to find us. In fact, one of our males brought home an abandoned 3 week old female which he raised. She lived almost 17 years. The 3 we havr now are: Sambo, 25 lbs. and 9 years who came in vitro with his mom; Patches, a 4 year old calico who was almost thrown to us from our goofy neighbor, and Pusspuss, a 3 year old tiger female who adopted us a few months after Patches came to us. I’d opt for Figaro for your baby.

    Hi,

Darling kitten. No “drop kicking” (idiot!), nuture and love with lots of handling. Name the kitten with an adult name. He’s a male so you don’t want a “cutsey” name. I like the name Figaro..it incorporates the fig tree theme. Aristotle is cute, to, but a bit long.
    Good luck…….

pic is so cute. I love it. These are superb

  20. Lindseyon 21 Jun 2008 at 10:32 am

Alex is right-on for the kitten to have the best chance of survival. The second best name in my opinion , (and the posters sent in a lot of good ones),is Ò€œSurvivorÒ€.But I would name it `surprise.

I want to say THANK YOU to every one of you that posted a comment. I really did not expect this type of response.

I think we may go with “Figgy”. I like that πŸ˜‰

Will post more pictures soon to keep you updated with his progress.

    have a fantastic day

Personally, I would have left the cat outside. I hate cats.

Dogs on the other hand, are OK with me. Is that dog suppose to be that big, or is it overweight? The head looks rather small for the body. I notice you did say “lazy ass” so maybe this answers my question πŸ™‚

    Absolutely beautiful!

He looks like a YODA to me, or even a LUCKY. πŸ˜‰

    Want to hear something funny?

Believe it or not, on that very same day I also found a kitten. Not in my backyard, but in the church lot next door to me. There were 4 kittens about 4 weeks old.

They got distributed in the neighborhood, but I kept one. He is adorable and feisty. He is sold black and we have named him PUNKY. He loves to attack feet.

You better watch it, though. They bury themselves in your heart. You will hate giving him up.

He’s a cut little kitty. The name I would suggest is bindybu. I have a good kitty story for you. My next door neighbor came over to me while I was working in the yard. She thought she had heard a meowing in her hallway wall! She kept hearing it all afternoon, but did not know exactly where it was coming from. She came over and got me, since she knows I have some cats already. So I went over and listened around, discovered the meowing was definitely coming from inside the wall!!! I went and got a hammer and chisel, the wall was a wood stud wall, so I started carefully knocking a hole in the wall. Did not see anything at first, so I went up a little higher, and sure enough there was a little kitten in there. How in the world he got in there is still a great mystery! I kept him and he is a very large, lazy cat now. We called him Meimei, since we did not know what sex he was at that time. He also was about 2 weeks old. Cats are strange people sometime!! But how curious do you have to be to end up INSIDE A WALL! He still likes to get inside boxes or bags, anything he can squeeze himself into!!

Great rescue. It’s a beautiful looking little fella, and in one of the pictures, he reminded me of the young lion in the Disney movie, “the Lion King.” therefore, I name this little fellow, “Simba” Hope you find a good home for Simba, as soon as he is old enough

Awww… tooo cute! I’d name him, Noah-
    obvious reasons πŸ™‚

I just can’t see you getting rid of him- you found him, in a very odd way (in your own yard, poor thing!) by another month, you’ll be tooo attached to lil’ Noah πŸ˜‰

You’re a good daddy for including your other child. You know how ugly sibling rivalry can get!

    Good luck!

Everyone made great comments except one. Jim Davis tortures animals. There are other ways to train an animal other than kicking them. I know, I have had animals for over 50 years and still do. You probably broke a rib on that cat. Do you beat your wife and kids too?

Everyone picked a good name for the kitten. I hope he is doing well.

    Hello Socrates,

Firstly, I wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.

Now, about the kitten. We once had a kitten just like it, and because of the stripes, my father called it ‘Tiger’…yes, I know, it’s a bit of a cliche.

So what I suggest is this: cats respond very well to the hissing sound of the letter ‘s’.
Well, there’s an ‘s’ (or two) in Socrates, but as you say, Joel’s dog go there first.

Anyway, I think ‘Joel’ for a cat is a bit boring (sorry Joel!). However, at university, I read for a degree in philosophy, and I suggest you call the kitten ‘Aristotle’… Greek or English pronunciation, it doesn’t matter.

    How about it? Best wishes,

    Anthony Harris

P.S. Don’t try to log on to my site yet, I’m still hunting for a host that will give me what I want. But that (my blog) and my main site, http://www.netprofitsinsight.com will be up very soon.

  35. Andromeda1on 16 Feb 2009 at 10:56 am

I know it’s a bit late and I like nearly all the names suggested – Socks, Aristotle etc., but I think you should call the kitten Pepper -as in salt and pepper but without the salt. Doesn’t he look tiny in your hand.
